Beautiful Bangkok

The title of this post is a bit silly because we've really seen nothing of Bangkok, but it's a beautiful morning and that's beauty enough. For all the world it seems just like a typical morning in L.A. -- the blue sky, mild temperature, breeze, vegetation, even the buildings. Nice.

Yesterday was a transition day. We ate breakfast, went swimming, got a bit burnt, ate lunch, and flew to Bangkok. It was a four hour flight, no problems. The Bangkok airport is huge, modern, stunning really. I took one photo with my iPhone.

Every space seemed to go on forever.

We were to go to level two, gate four and call our hotel, the Floral Shire, for a ride. We found level two, gate four but had no clue how to call the hotel. Fortunately, people around us were helpful and, ultimately, a van and a driver appeared and off we went.

The hotel is on a little side street. A step up, in the email access and light in the rooms departments at least, from any of the places we stayed in in Bali. On the other hand, rather than being located in a beautiful garden, it's in the big city.

Across the street is a guy with his taxi

and a lady with her little alley-side stand and her dog.

The hotel is attractive with a great breakfast and place outdoors to eat.

The fact that it's in the flight path of the landing planes is, I suppose, the price you pay for being close to the airport.

One thing that seemed the same as Bali was a little shrine in the hotel lobby, although I expect the gods are different.

It's 9:30 a.m.. In four hours we'll be on our way to Laos where things will, no doubt, get still more interesting.
